How lack of sleep affects our skin?

It’s easier said than done when somebody tells us to get 8 hours of sleep every night. Any new moms out there? Working night shifts?

Sleep is essential for regenerating your skin cells and nourishment of your body, brain and skin. Your body is getting rid of 60% of it’s toxins during good night sleep and helps you stay refreshed, healthy and energized.

The length and quality of your sleep affects your skin’s overall health:

- Lack of sleep causes your blood vessels to dilate which leads to dark circles under the eyes.

- Your skin becomes imbalanced. Decreased pH levels lead to redness, uneven skin tone and dryness, making your skin look older and dull.

- Bags under the eyes - they can also occur when there is an excess amount of fluid in the body, causing the eyes to sag and swell.

- Lack of sleep might make you breakout more, especially if you have acne prone skin.

- Sleep deprivation affects collagen production, which leads to loss of skin elasticity making your skin look more wrinkled and saggy.

- Sleep deprivation can cause increase of skin inflammations and lead to outbreaks of eczema, psoriasis, and skin allergies.

Having a proper skincare routine is certainly important but getting your beauty sleep will also make a big difference in the way your skin looks.
